An important post-Great Awakening articulation of the role of the Covenant in "Edwardsian" Congregational theology. Strong takes an important middle path. He opposed the softening of covenantal conversion by way of the half-way covenant, which allowed "unconverted" folks into full membership in the local assembly. At the same time, he opposed efforts at creating a second tier to the covenanted community by way of "owning the Covenant."
