100% Maqui - Our organic maqui powder starts out as Chile grown, fresh, whole maqui berries. They are harvested, frozen, and then dried via a cold freeze-drying process. As a final step, they are ground to a fine powder and packaged.

Quality you can see, taste and smell.

1. Start with the color - Maqui berries have a very high concentration of an antioxidant called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are the pigment in the berries that give them their purple color, so the color of a maqui berry powder is the best indication of it's quality. It should be a deep purple color. The fresher the powder and the higher the anthocyanin content, the more deep its color will be. If it is more of a dull purple, it is a good indication that the phytonutrients have been broken down through the drying process or some filler has been added, which dilutes the color. We choose to use the freeze-drying method to dry our maqui berry powder because it is the best way to maintain the nutrients from the fresh maqui berries.
2. Taste and smell - Maqui berries have a somewhat sweet berry taste and smell. The powder should be similar.
3. Other things to consider - Lastly, when evaluating the quality of a maqui berry fruit powder, it is important to understand how and where the product was grown. Was it grown using Organic farming practices, and is it Organic? Was it grown in good quality soil that is not contaminated with things like heavy metals? We use maqui berries that are grown in Chile using Organic farming practices and we test the finished product for heavy metal contamination.
