The factory bolts typically can't handle the additional pressure in high-performance applications which can lead to the cylinder heads lifting. Upgrading to the XDP head studs helps to keep the cylinder heads locked down and avoid potential head gasket failures.

Constructed using an 8740 Chromoly Steel with an added proprietary element ensures these studs are stronger and will not stretch like the stock bolts. The threads are rolled after heat-treating to deliver maximum fatigue strength.

These studs are rated at 205,000+ psi yield strength and 225,000+ psi tensile strength to ensure a strong hold under higher combustion pressures.

In addition to the increased strength, replacing the head bolts with studs also allows you to obtain a more accurate torque reading. A conventional bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time.

With a stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force. Another benefit of studs is they allow for easier engine assembly and proper alignment of the cylinder heads every time.

XDP X-TRA Slick Engine & Fastener Assembly Lubricant (Sold Separately):
The use of XD541 is highly recommended during engine assembly. Apply XDP X-TRA Slick Lubricant to head studs, head bolts, main studs, main bolts, connecting rod bolts, and any other fasteners used during engine assembly. Using a proper assembly lubricant during fastener installation reduces friction and torque pre-load scatter in the torquing sequence, while also helping to prevent thread galling and seizing.
